Symposium EM4
Materials for Membrane Technology
Chair: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wai Fen YONG (XMUM)
Co-chair: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Qiugen ZHANG (XMU)
Membrane-based separation is one of the promising technologies for separation and purification. It has been broadly used in range of gas and liquid applications such as gas separation, pervaporation, membrane distillation (MD), forward osmosis (FO), pressure retarded osmosis (PRO), reverse osmosis (RO), organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN), nanofiltration (NF), ultrafiltration (UF), microfiltration (MF), electrodialysis, etc. As of now, there are continuous development of advanced materials for membrane separation, which expand rapidly through a multidisciplinary approach from polymer science, materials chemistry and engineering. These emerging advanced materials and modification strategies including nanoporous polymers (e.g., thermally rearranged (TR) polymers, polymers of intrinsic microporosity), 1D- and 2D- materials, mixed matrix membranes (MMMs), facilitated transport, covalent organic frameworks (COFs), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), inorganic, responsive, biomimetic and bioinspired which shifted towards the development of next-generation high separation performance membranes. This symposium gathers membrane scientists from the globe to share the recent advances in materials for membrane science and technology.
Topics include, but will not be limited to:
- Gas separation/ pervaporation/MD
- NF/OSN/RO
- FO/PRO
- UF/MF
- Membrane reactors
- Electrodialysis
- 1D- and 2D- materials for membranes
